BINDLE POSTSCRIPT
- To read this thing in order, go to the first post here and click “previous” to more forward in time. Tumblr can’t display in reverse chronological order so since I posted as I drew the piece is has the last drawings up front.
- I’m glad I finally found a drawing app I like - SketchTime is really great but it could be better if it had “fill.” Also, don’t put words on the emails I send from your app. Overall, a really good app for drawing and sharing.
- The Sensu stylus was good - I didn’t use the brush part at all. I had a Jot and another one with a fabric tip that didn’t work so well. I also just used my finger.
- It was weird to draw digitally, I’m so used to pencil on paper. I did a couple posts in pencil here and here and here but mostly is was all phone-drawn.
- Drawing every 15 minutes made me a little manic - I didn’t read or sleep much on the flights. On the way west I didn’t listen to music either as I was conserving battery.
- Drawing on a phone while driving is hard and I don’t suggest it.
- It was fun to declare myself the “Artist in Residence” on I-64, then airports and flights.
- Richmond airport - quick security, easy to find power outlet for charging.
- My flight west was on American - no power outlets but they did have (not free) wi-fi for posting. All the little numbers on those posts are GPS coordinates - I’m not sure how accurate they are. @AmericanAir was game to talk to me on twitter which was nice.
- Dallas/Fort Worth airport had less power outlets, tough to recharge. I sat on the floor next to a dog. Supposedly there’s a statue of George W. Bush but I couldn’t find it.
- On the Dallas to San Diego flight there was a kid next to me drawing! Mostly skulls and knives, cranking Bob Marley. He was my co-Artist in Residence.
- I drew a little in SD but I was pretty busy with my mission there.
- On the way home I was on United - no wi-fi but power at my seat so no battery worries. The couple next to me was speaking a language almost like Russian but not quite. Polish? Here they are sleeping. I imagined them as Ukrainian nationalists on the run from Putin.
- @United also engaged me a bit. The airlines are on their twitter game, even late at night.
- I had to run though Dulles to make my next flight so I have no comment on their power outlet situation.
- The Wawa outside the Richmond airport was suprisingly crazy for midnight on a Sunday. Some guys were fixing a boat in the parking lot!
- Thanks to all who watched while I did this crazy project.
